Learning to detach

Very often we can come across situations which you know will resurrect old feelings and highlight where you still need to do some healing. Just after my birthday a weekly draw I did told me something was going to happen along these lines.

King of Cups ~ 3 Swords ~ 8 Swords
Base card ~ 10 Wands

When I drew these I automatically thought that the King represented a bloke I know, but that wasn't the case, and a very good reminder not to get hung up on the possibility that a court card always has to represent a person! In this case it shows (I hope, at any rate) some mature emotional detachment, being able to look at a situation and not over-react or take absolutely everything to heart, which is what I have done on many an occasion over the years! The overall situation I found out about did bring up past issues, and as denoted by the 3 swords, they were pretty painful! There was an instinctive reaction to go into over-analysis and retreat to the inner world and feel sorry for myself, but I do think that King helped to negate the effects.

The base card also showed me the underlying reasons for how I thought what I did, and how I felt! Very often we put ourselves under undue pressure and do the same to others, especially when it comes to hopes and dreams for what we think people can achieve, become, or even should want to do. This then creates expectations of ourselves (and others) which eventually can lead to disappointment, especially when what we want (or hope) are either unrealistic or not what someone else wants for themselves. And at the end of the day, their life is entirely theirs to do with as they please!
